Section One Abuse and neglect case in Lempster Section Two Photos of Amy Section Three How to prevent animal abuse and neglect |
I was going to begin with "A Year in Reflection" however given the tragedy of the recent rescue by New Hampshire Equine Humane Association it seemed inappropriate. Four horses were reported to have been hidden away with out food, water, medical or farrier care in Lempster NH. Unfortunately the complaint was legitimate. Three horses and a pony were found in a dilapidated old chicken coup. The animals were malnourished and severely dehydrated. The feet were in deplorable condition. The animals were removed and placed in the custody of our affiliate NHEHA. The pony was, as ponies can often be, pretty resilient. All of the animals were in desperate need of food, and water, dental, and farrier care as well as a worming program and a good grooming. Amy the older of the four was more severely affected by the lack of nutrition and care. Amy also suffered from Uveitis, which is a painful degenerative disease of the eyes, (Moon blindness) in addition to infections in both eyes. Upon being examined by the staff at Rochester Equine Center it was determined that surgery was required for Amy, however her physical condition would not enable her to survive the surgery. The amount of pain that she was experiencing led to the difficult, very emotional and more humane decision of euthanasia. On Wednesday evening January 22nd after an afternoon of carrots and lots of loving attention Amy was sadly laid to rest. Her agony would now came to and end E.P.O.N.A. has been working behind the scenes providing medical and farrier care as well as other needs. Thank You !!!!! On behalf of NHEHA and E.P.O.N.A a sincere thank you to the many that have shared their generosity by providing hay, grain, blankets and monetary contributions. Your support is greatly appreciated. Special Thanks To Phil and Kim Newt for opening their facility Hidden Valley Ranch to NHEHA Association.
