What’s up, sports fans?! Amazon has hired Aaron Kaplan and Wendi Trilling’s production companies, Kapital Entertainment and TrillTV, to produce a new sports betting comedy series.
The working title for the series is currently Sharps. Amazon veteran John Hamburg is attached to direct, while Flint Wainess is the series writer and executive producer.
Flynn’s gambling habit will take him to a dark place
The 30-minute comedy series will center on Tyler Flynn, a secret gambling addict. At this early stage, details are thin on the ground but we know that Flynn’s gambling habit will take him to a dark place until ultimately Buddy Kaspar, a sports betting pro, offers him a part in a gambling syndicate. Kaspar is described as “eccentric” and “possibly psychopathic.”
Wainess may only have the IMDb page of a jobbing TV writer, but there is hope for a quality show. He also penned a The Black List-worthy script titled Linda and Monica. The Black List is an annual round-up of the best unproduced scripts and is often a screenwriting badge of honor.
John Hamburg has a solid collection of producer credits and has directed a few middlingly reviewed comedy films including Along Came Polly and I Love You, Man.
Amazon has yet to set a release date for Sharps.
