The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that the lawsuit, which was initially filed in 2018, accused Wynn and his company, Wynn Resorts, of firing Angelica Limcaco, a salon manager at one of the company’s Las Vegas venues because she reported that Wynn had raped one of her employees in 2005.
The Lawsuit Was Dismissed as Being Unviable and Outdated
The three-judge panel from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Angelica Limcaco and her lawyer Jordan Matthews had not provided enough evidence to support their claims of racketeering. The court also found that the plaintiff had waited too long to file her lawsuit, as the alleged misconduct occurred more than a decade ago.
According to Limcaco’s legal claims, she was forced into silence and blacklisted by Wynn Resorts after she attempted to report to her managers that one of the female employees on her team had been raped by Steve Wynn.
The lawsuit was filed under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act in December 2020 and followed a civil rights legal case from 2018, which Limcaco submitted to the Nevada District Court and eventually lost.
Limcaco and her lawyer are not intimidated by this decision. Matthews is determined to continue the battle with an appeal to the US Supreme Court.
The dismissal of this lawsuit is a victory for Wynn and his company, as it brings an end to a legal battle that had been ongoing for several years. The lawsuit had the potential to cause significant financial damage to the company, and its dismissal will likely come as a relief to Wynn Resorts shareholders.
Despite numerous legal challenges, Wynn Resorts has remained a major player in the casino and gaming industry. The company operates several successful casinos, including the Wynn Las Vegas and the Encore at Wynn Las Vegas.
Steve Wynn Has Been Frequenting Courts in the Past Few Years
This is not the first time that Steve Wynn has faced legal trouble in recent years. In 2018, he resigned as CEO of Wynn Resorts after allegations of sexual misconduct were made against him. Wynn, who is no longer involved with the company he founded, has long denied any wrongdoing. So far, he has managed to settle all lawsuits against him or prove that he is innocent.
One example is the legal case filed by a former massage therapist, Brenna Schrader, who claims that she was used as an on-call sexual servant by Steve Wynn. Schrader sought damages for the physical and emotional distress she says she suffered as a result.
