How to Qualify
The Spring Carnival from April 3-9 will gear everyone up for the PokerNews Cup on Global Poker. During that period, players will have an opportunity to win a spot in one of 10 invitationals where you could play your way into the PokerNews Cup for free.
There are various tasks that players must complete in order to advance to the invitationals. On Tuesday (April 4), players must see at least five flops in SC ring games or GC ring games to receive an entry into any of the Spring Carnival invitationals.
Wednesday’s task is to play 20 or more Gold Coins spins on Lucky Show to get into the GC invitationals. Or, for SC players, you must do 20 or more Sweeps Coins spins on Lucky Show.
On Thursday, it’s back to the ring games task, once again the requirement being to see five flops or more. And then on Friday, 20 spins on Triple Double Fever will get you into your choice of an invitational.
The invitationals take place on Saturday and Sunday, all in the turbo format. On Saturday, the start times are 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. ET, and then 4:00, 6:00, and 8:00 p.m. ET on Sunday. Start times are the same for both GC and SC games.
Global Poker x PokerNews Cup Details
Beginning on April 10, the mammoth lineup of poker fun kicks off, and we here at PokerNews have partnered with our friends at Global Poker to bring some exciting poker games to the popular social poker site.
Those who go on to win the aforementioned invitations will automatically be entered into the PokerNews Cup qualifiers. In total, we’ll have 28 qualifiers (14 GC and 14 SC).
If you don’t win an invitational, don’t worry, you can still get in with SC11 or GC11,000 entry amounts to any of the qualifiers. The qualifying rounds have SC10,000 and GC40,000,000 guarantees in total.
Players who win qualifying round events, which take place in the first two weeks of the series, are automatically entered into the finals. If you finish in the top 50, you’ll move on to the quarterfinals, and if you make the final table, you’ll skip right ahead to the semifinals.
The top 90 from the quarterfinals will all advance a step, and then the top 36 from the semis move on to the finals. On April 30, for those who battled for three weeks and are still standing, the finale begins, and this is where all that hard work very well could pay off.
In the finals, Global Poker is guaranteeing SC250,000 and GC100,000,000. On top of that, there are numerous other cool prizes for those who win qualifiers and the final round, including some Global Poker x PokerNews swag and a shiny trophy.
It will be interesting to see if a qualifying round winner will end up taking down the finals. Winning a qualifier puts you at an advantage because you don’t have to be concerned with trying to advance through other rounds. It’s like getting a Fast Pass at Disneyland so you can skip the line and get right on the ride.
That said, the event is a survive-and-advance game. If you make it through each round one way or the other, you’ll still have a chance to win the biggest prize — SC100,000 or GC40,000,000.
There will be plenty more revealed about the PokerNews Cup in the near future, so make sure to check back regularly to PokerNews for all the latest on this exciting series.
