Riverside County Superior Court Judge Timothy F. Freer has sentenced two women — including the sister of Los Angeles Clippers’ forward Kawhi Leonard — to life in prison for the 2019 murder of 84-year-old Afaf Assad at Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California.
Barstool Sports writer Jeff Nadu took to Twitter with a photo of Leonard’s sister Kimesha Williams after Judge Freer sentenced her and Candace Townsell on Friday.
According to The Press-Enterprise, Freer said a statement Williams’ attorney read on her behalf saying that she was “not responsible” for the death of the elderly woman was “laughable.”
She was left on a bathroom floor with her head exploding.”
“She was left on a bathroom floor with her head exploding. A casino bathroom, where people go to urinate and defecate and do God knows what else. That’s how her life ended.”
Of the two Moreno Valley women, Williams was the one who violently assaulted Assad while Townsell acted as lookout. Assad’s purse containing $1,000 was never recovered. According to a filing by Riverside County Senior Deputy District Attorney, Marcus Garret, Townsell “celebrated by skipping and waving her arms while fleeing the murder scene.”
The two women have been awaiting sentencing since being charged in 2019. Now they know they’re heading to prison for life and with no possibility of parole.
