Divinity
back at E.P.O.N.A. with her new feet.
Special
Thanks to everyone at Rochester Equine Clinic and to
Farrier Patrick Reilly
Black
Jack:
In
an unfortunate incident with one of his paddock
mates, Black Jack apparently made an attempt to
improve his social status and unfortunately lost the
battle.
He
suffered a nasty blow to the jaw and x-rays revealed
that he did have several fractures. He currently is
recovering with the aid of an exterior fixature that
helps to stabilize the fracture while it heals. He is
expected to have a full recovery within the next few
months and will at that time be available for
adoption pending his attitude and disposition.
Donations may be made to E.P.O.N.A. or to the
E.P.O.N.A. Medical Relief Fund at Rochester Equine
Clinic.

Blessed Update 4 /16/04
Back in
November, Blessed, E.P.O.N.A.'s first rescue and
retiree was diagnosed with a maxillary sinus cyst.
This is a large mass located in the nasal cavity.
At first it was thought that the mass may have been a
tumor and possibly malignant. As
fate would have it, the suspected tumor was a cyst.
Blessed
has once again been blessed. He underwent
surgery and is now recuperating.
Update:
Blessed
was at Rochester Equine a few weeks ago, and received
a very good report. New photos taken with a scope in
the nasal cavity show that the remaining portion of
the cyst has diminished in size. It is almost less
than half of the size. He continues to do remarkably well. He is
still hanging out all day with "the
boys".

Salvadore
Update 4/16/04
As
many of you may remember Salvadore who is retired
with us with a heart condition also has difficulty
with his feet. Salvadore has very poor quality feet
and is prone to abscesses.
Sal
continues to do very well and is getting out everyday
with the very generous donation of the pair of Old
Mac Boots that were donated by Anne Surman.
Thanks
Anne Sal is loving his new sneakers.
Boo
Update 4/16/04
Boo
and Sheeba continue to do very well. It is rare for
us to be so thrilled to have a horse come in covered
in mud on both sides. However when Boo comes in from
the paddock, the happier we all are, because we know
that he is able to get up and down. By the looks of
him lately we must say that he is getting up and down
very well. He is still only on a maintenance level of
Cosequin so we are very pleased with him and the
progress that he has made over the past few months.
Congratulations Boo.!!!!
Boo
recently arrived at E.P.O.N.A. from the New Hampshire
S.P.C.A. He and his mate Sheeba were victims of
neglect.
Boo
is severely arthritic in both front knees. He is
currently getting around fairly well, with
medication. However even with medication it has been
difficult for him. On several occasions Boo has lied
down and has been unable to get up without
assistance. Although not serious Boo has injured
himself in his attempts to get up, and we are
currently treating his wounds. E.P.O.N.A. and
Cornerstone Veterinary are discussing a care program
for him to see if a program can be devised to
accompany his needs and provide him with a
comfortable quality of life. Boo and Sheeba will be
available for adoption once we have a care plan in
place for Boo and we have evaluated Sheeba for her
capabilities as a companion or saddle horse.
Both
horses have halter scars from their halters being to
tight. The halters were embedded into the hair and
had removed large pieces of skin from their noses and
cheeks.
Thanks
to the New Hampshire S.P.C.A. for their efforts in
rescuing Boo and Sheeba.
