The Massachusetts Gaming Commission’s (MGC) Investigations and Enforcement Bureau has fined MGM Springfield $45,000 for a range of underage gambling rules breaches.

Between June 2022 and December 2022, individuals who were younger than 21 years old were able to access the casino resort’s gaming floor and engage in gambling. MGM Springfield previously paid an $18,000 fine in 2021 and a $100,000 penalty in 2019 for similar infractions.

ongoing cooperation to put enhanced practices into place to prevent similar incidents in the future”

The Gaming Commission noted that the casino self-reported some of the incidents and will pay the fine. MGC Senior Enforcement Counsel Kathleen Kramer welcomes the casino’s “ongoing cooperation to put enhanced practices into place to prevent similar incidents in the future.” The MGC will monitor the property’s remedial and compliance steps going forward.

One of the changes that MGM Springfield is making to try to curtail the entry of underage people is the installation of a security station close to the South End Market food court and additional railings. It could also potentially alter the wide-open layout of the gaming floor, but it still needs to fully analyze access and fire safety repercussions.
