Isaiah Rodgers Sr. is currently serving a one-year ban from the NFL for betting on his own team. The Indianapolis Colts released the cornerback in June 2023 after the allegations came to light.

In his first interview since his suspension, Rodgers told ESPN that he placed the wagers for people he knew and not for himself. The unnamed people were living in Florida where no legal sportsbooks were operational at the time. Rodgers accepted responsibility for his actions as he knew the league’s rules and is willing to deal with the consequences.

NFL investigators discovered that Rodgers placed bets on his own team while at the Colts’ facility. The league’s rules at the time stipulated that the punishment for betting on one’s own team was a one-year ban, which has since increased to two years. Rodgers placed over 100 wagers in total, including a successful $1,000 bet on former teammate Jonathan Taylor to rush for more than 100 yards in a single game. He said that most of the wagers were “crazy-leg parlays with just $25 trying to make a crazy amount.”

did not think he would get caught

Rodgers did not think he would get caught and first heard about the investigation more than three months before it went public. The Philadelphia Eagles signed the 26-year-old in August and put him on the suspended/reserve list. He will be eligible for reinstatement following the Super Bowl.
