BetMGM in Hot Water for Allegedly Accepting 15,000+ Improper Bets in Massachusetts

BetMGM is in hot water in Massachusetts for allegedly accepting thousands of improper bets on college football games. The Investigations and Enforcement Bureau (IEB) revealed its findings during a Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) meeting on Thursday.

The operator took in over 15,000 college athlete prop bets, with stakes totaling more than $200,000. While some states do allow prop wagers on college athletes, these types of bets are prohibited in Massachusetts.

BetMGM did not self-report the violations

An adjudicatory hearing will take place to discuss the statutory violation because of the number of bets and the total sum of money, according to MGC Commissioner Eileen O’Brien. The IEB first noticed the infractions, as BetMGM did not self-report the violations. MGC Chairperson Kathy Judd-Stein noted that she wants to quickly resolve the matter “for the protection of student-athletes.”

Two other compliance issues came up during Thursday’s meeting. The retail sportsbook at MGM Springfield improperly accepted a small wager on an in-state college team that wasn’t participating in a national tournament. Fanatics Betting and Gaming also committed a similar infraction.

NFL Player Serving Suspension for Betting on His Own Team Reveals All in Interview

Isaiah Rodgers Sr. is currently serving a one-year ban from the NFL for betting on his own team. The Indianapolis Colts released the cornerback in June 2023 after the allegations came to light.

In his first interview since his suspension, Rodgers told ESPN that he placed the wagers for people he knew and not for himself. The unnamed people were living in Florida where no legal sportsbooks were operational at the time. Rodgers accepted responsibility for his actions as he knew the league’s rules and is willing to deal with the consequences.

NFL investigators discovered that Rodgers placed bets on his own team while at the Colts’ facility. The league’s rules at the time stipulated that the punishment for betting on one’s own team was a one-year ban, which has since increased to two years. Rodgers placed over 100 wagers in total, including a successful $1,000 bet on former teammate Jonathan Taylor to rush for more than 100 yards in a single game. He said that most of the wagers were “crazy-leg parlays with just $25 trying to make a crazy amount.”

did not think he would get caught

Rodgers did not think he would get caught and first heard about the investigation more than three months before it went public. The Philadelphia Eagles signed the 26-year-old in August and put him on the suspended/reserve list. He will be eligible for reinstatement following the Super Bowl.

AvatarUX Launches New Exciting Slot Release Nugget

AvatarUX, one of the leading names in the iGaming industry and an award-winning game studio, invites the players to try their luck in digging for gold and winning fantastic prizes. Its newest slot release, Nugget, promises ultimate fun and enjoying some of the best features on the market.

Fantastic features for increased win potential:

The game incorporates the popular company’s feature Golden Ways, which increases the win potential and keeps the players on the edge of their seats during the whole gameplay.

This set of features made its debut in another popular company’s release, Donkey & the GOATS, and rapidly became a hit among the players.

The slot is played on a 6×4 grid with a floating reel situated above it, thanks to another popular feature, ZapReel. Every spin offers a minimum of 15,625 different ways to win a prize during the base game, and as the game goes on, the number of paylines can increase to 530,000.

If a Payday symbol lands, a Wild West feature is triggered. Since there are three of them, HOTX Gunslinger, Mystery Symbols, and Low Pay Removal, it is unknown which one will be activated. Each one of them contains a different number of lives for the Free Spin round, up to four of them, boosting the win potential of the game.

If the HOTX Gunslinger prize is activated, a special symbol with an attached multiplier will appear. The multiplier is worth as much as there are symbols present on the reels. If the Gunslinger lands on the ZapReel, the total value of the multiplier is further enhanced.

If the Mystery Symbols reward is triggered, the symbols covered in golden nuggets appear and create the win.

The Low Pay Removal symbol removes some symbols and leaves high-paying ones only.

Free Spins:

If at least three Scatter symbols land on the reels, the free spins round is launched, and TAKE Wheel or GAMBLE Wheel awaits. TAKE Wheel increases the number of payways and free spins, while GAMBLE Wheel can increase the prize, but also lead to completely losing the bonus.

The bonus round also introduces the Gold Rush, and the players are awarded extra spins and additional Gunslinger and Payday symbols.

In some jurisdictions, the win potential of the game is increased by XPRESS in-game option, since there are various bonus options and ante bets available.

According to the source, Lara Falzon, CEO at AvatarUX, said: “Nugget is a Wild West thriller that pushes players to the limit, with Gunslingers galore filling the reels as players look for a max win of 25,000x. We want to create titles that really challenge what we’re capable of, and Nugget sees us diversifying again our portfolio of games and products. With the new and innovative Golden Ways, we are bringing a brand new experience to our players and offering a fresh addition to our portfolio.”
